Andrew has 10 years of hands-on ground engineering experience throughout NZ, Australia and the South Pacific. Truly passionate about all things drilling – Andrew has drilled thousands of metres through soil and rock in a variety of environments.  His technical expertise for rock anchoring and soil nailing is extensive and his knowledge of different techniques and plant is unparalleled. 

As the founding Managing Director of Rock Control since 2010, Andrew has developed strong contract and managerial skills. He has successfully completed many large drilling projects for the Christchurch rebuild, with a long list of happy engineer’s and project managers. He brings an approachable nature and transparent management style to every project.

A keen problem solver and strong communicator with an eye for detail, Strider has a passion for producing quality work. As a highly experienced industry professional with 10 years’ experience supervising civil projects, Strider brings sound practical knowledge and an impressive work ethic to every project. Well versed in construction and geotechnical projects; an experienced IRATA qualified rope access technician combining 8 years of drilling, rope access and excavator operation experience gained throughout New Zealand and Australia. Strider has recently moved into a project management role for Rock Control after acquiring his PM Cert IV (Civil), playing a key role in the implementation of ISO 9001 QMS and establishing best practice procedures for the company.

As our dedicated Business and Quality Systems Manager, Nikki brings a wealth of previous experience and expertise in adult education and industry training. Having recently attained further qualifications in quality systems management, Nikki is responsible for ensuring our ISO 9001: 2015 accreditation is implemented and maintained at the leading edge of internationally recognised management systems. With excellent communication and organisational skills, Nikki liaises between internal and external parties to ensure our staff and systems are among the best qualified and resourced in the New Zealand civil market.   

Project Manager
Tim O'Toole, MSc Geology

Tim has sound practical experience and technical knowledge in the mining, civil construction and agricultural industries.  His skill set specializes in anchoring, piling and geotechnical investigative drilling.  A strong problem solver, with a passion for quality, Tim thrives on ensuring an optimal product and solution for all projects and works confidently with the relevant engineering. Tim has a strong background of anchor and pile testing coupled with an exceptional understanding of geological mechanics and processes, providing security that the system being installed will perform for his clients.

Senior Supervisor
Jim Aldridge, NZ Cert in Infrastructure, ACI Nozzleman

Jim is a civil contracting professional with 10 years experience on a range of construction and geotechnical projects throughout New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific. Since joining Rock Control in 2014, Jim has attained considerable skills and experience in shotcrete or sprayed concrete application. He is one of the few shotcrete nozzlemen operating in New Zealand who hold the internationally recognised ACI Shotcrete Nozzleman certification for wet-mix application. As a Senior Site Supervisor, Jim is responsible for directing our specialised crews on a range of drilling and construction projects. He has a keen eye for safe and efficient practice and has been integral in establishing procedural documentation for many of our core services.

In November 2015 Rock Control attained the ACC Workplace Safety Management Practices (WSMP) accreditation at the secondary level. This system provides a framework for building successful and sustainable health and safety practices across all aspects of our business. Rock Control also consistently achieves a Green rating on the recently established Sitewise contractor database. As always, health and safety excellence is a key driver in everything we do at Rock Control.

Rock Control have a robust Quality Management System to ensure quality and customer satisfaction on all services provided to clients. Our system has been developed internally and tailored to the highly specialised services we provide. Our QMS is fully accredited to the internationally recognised ISO 9001:2015 standard and regular external audits are carried out to ensure ongoing compliance.


Through careful planning and smart procurement, Rock Control have developed strategies that minimise waste and recycle or reuse virtually all waste on sites. Due to our heavy involvement in urban civil construction on the Christchurch rebuild, we have developed several in-house technologies to minimise construction pollution. As a young company, environmental awareness and protection is a key driver among both management and productive staff alike.
